Sonoma began with the Mission San Francisco Solano founded in1823. Sonoma's early 20th-century City Hall, at the Plaza's center, was designed and built with four identical sides in order not to offend the merchants on any one side of the Plaza.

Sonoma is a small, historic community of almost 10,000.  Located in the heart of the Wine Country, Sonoma is surrounded with world-class wineries and scenic vineyards. The town offers an unmatched quality of life, combining the pace and friendliness of small town living with cultural and recreational opportunities normally associated with much larger communities.  Sonoma serves as the economic hub of Sonoma Valley, which has approximately 39,000 residents.

Within Sonoma is a small neightborhood known as Armstrong Estates, which offers some of the finest homes in the area.
