East of Santa Rosa along theValley of the Moon Highway you will find the small rural towns of Kenwood and Glen Ellen.
The historic Kenwood Railroad depot is used as the community hall. It was once a busy stop between Sonoma and Santa Rosa, but the railroad left long ago.
Kenwood is located 16 miles west of Sonoma and 12 miles east of Santa Rosa. Glen Ellen has a population of about 1,000. Kenwood is slightly larger.
Originally settled by Indians, with the discovery of Gold in California, American and European settlers came and developed the area primarily for agriculture.

Today, Kenwood and Glen Ellen remain quiet rural communities of ranch style and Bungalow homes. Both are surrounded by top quality vineyards.

The areas most famous inhabitant, author Jack London owned a large spread called the Beauty Ranch, which is now a State Park where you can tour his original home and his unfinished mansion the "Wolf House".
